Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about BackedBy

What is BackedBy?

BackedBy is a platform that helps you turn any claim into a structured evidence card. You can add sources, set confidence levels, and share proof. It's designed to stop arguments in circles by providing verifiable evidence for claims.

How do I create an evidence card?

Creating an evidence card takes under 60 seconds. First, state your claim (max 100 characters). Then add sources you would cite publicly. Set your confidence level (author-reported, not independently verified). Finally, choose visibility (Public, Unlisted, or Private) and publish.

Do I need an account to create cards?

No account is required to create evidence cards. You can create and share cards without signing in. Sign in only if you want to vote on cards, save cards, or manage your own cards.

What are primary vs secondary sources?

Primary sources are original research, official documents, or direct evidence. Secondary sources are analysis, reporting, or interpretation of primary sources. Opinion/editorial and anecdotal sources are also supported but labeled accordingly.

What does confidence level mean?

Confidence level is author-reported and represents how certain the claim author is about their claim based on the evidence provided. It's not independently verified. High confidence (70-100%) means strong evidence with multiple sources. Medium (40-69%) means good evidence with caveats. Low (0-39%) means limited or conflicting evidence.

How do I share an evidence card?

Each card gets a unique short link (backedby.app/c/CODE). You can copy the link, copy embed code for websites, or copy a summary. Cards automatically generate OpenGraph images for rich previews on Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord, and Notion.
